A brief description on protective projects of NFA:
As a practical manifestation of our goals, we have designed and implemented a number of protective and supportive projects parallel to our research and educational programs, a number or which will briefly be referred below:
1- Preventing animal slaughter
NFA prevents animal slaughter through buying and taking care of various species of birds and other animals from the hunters and capturers, especially the endangered species. Dealing with the offending industries is part of our future programs.
2- Acting to revive the Anzali Wetlands
Our activities in order to achieve this goal have been performed by arranging some studies on non-fuel motorboats, studying on the characteristics of Anzali Lagoon, having protective efforts on migratory birds and improving public awareness about the issue on villages nearby Anzali lagoon.
3- Establishment of special refuge for swans and other migratory birds
This project is running in parallel within the two provinces; Gilan and Mazandaran. The initial phase of the project has already been completed at Gilan province. It is performed with partnership of the related Department of Environment in Gilan.
The project of “Swans and Migratory Birds’ Specific Shelter” has been initially proposed by Nature Front Association (NFA) and supported by the Gilan’s Department of Environmental Protection. The initial phase of the project was including preparation of a six-hectare area adjacent to Selkeh lagoon with the aim of protection and providing support for swans and other migratory birds in wetlands, since the Selkeh lagoon it is the last real refuge for the swans.
The idea of this project was initially proposed by one of the NFA’s experts. Indeed, it was performed after complete series of comprehensive surveys and studies on international scientific references as well as necessary modeling and customizing of the idea with regard to the specific conditions of Selkeh Wetlands.
The constructive process was begun on late 2003 by fencing in the area to prevent the access of hunters and offenders.
To date, several years passed since the start of this project; nearly two-thirds of the swans which have entered the Selkeh zone have chosen it as a safe place. It’s worth mentioning that they are being fed several times, everyday.
